Today is the day that your brand new single “Drop The Needle Down” is released, how excited are you for the release day to finally hit?
I fell in love with “Drop The Needle Down” about 10 minutes into the writing process, so to say that I’m excited to finally share it would be such an understatement. I hope people love it as much as I loved every minute in the process of creating it.
Now you have gone to great lengths to write, record and produce “Drop The Needle Down”, which includes a trip down to Nashville, how did this adventure come to be?
Patricia Conroy and Dave “Dwave” Thomson have been at the top of my wish list of co-writers for quite some time now. I have such a profound respect for them both as writers, and for Dave as a producer as well, and I’m so lucky to have had the privilege of writing with them. I’m incredibly passionate about songwriting, so I try to make it down to Nashville on writing trips as frequently as I can, and I was fortunate enough to have spent some time writing with Dave and Patricia on my most recent trip. I knew before we were even finished writing “Drop The Needle Down” that I would be recording it.
With the lyrics in the song is there a meaning embedded within?
“Drop The Needle Down” embodies a snapshot in time where one song and one person can become your whole world, and everything else momentarily fades away. I’ve always loved that a song can become such a strong memory in itself, and “Drop The Needle Down” captures just that – the romantic nostalgia surrounding a simple but significant moment.
Did you ever plan on going to Nashville to write and record? And would you do it again?
I fell in love with Nashville within my first hour of arriving back in 2014, and have loved every minute that I’ve spent there since. There will be countless trips back to write and soak up the inspiration in the future, without a doubt.
With releasing the single what other plans do you have surrounding the single?
I’m incredibly excited to head out on a radio tour of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario on January 9th to promote the new single. One of my favourite parts of being involved in country music is the amazing people you get to meet along the way, and I’m so thrilled to get to put in a little bit of face-time with some of them on this tour.
I’m also beyond ecstatic to release my first music video for “Drop The Needle Down” on January 20th. I filmed the video with Tim Deegan, who does such an incredible job, and who’s work I’ve admired for quite awhile now. Tim had such a wonderful vision for the video that captured the essence of the song perfectly, and I can’t wait to share the finished product.
You also had a collaboration with the single, who was involved with the process and how did you find the experience?
Dave “Dwave” Thomson and Patricia Conroy are two of the most incredible co-writers that a girl could ask for, and two people that I’ve admired in the industry for quite some time. I was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to write with them while I was down in Nashville this past fall, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about “Drop The Needle Down” being the end result of that collaboration!
How did the collaboration define the song?
Dave and Patricia both have the incredible ability to create lyrics that paint such a powerful image in your mind, and evoke an emotion in just a few simple words, and I’ve always admired that about them both as writers. It’s impossible not to enjoy the process of writing a song like “Drop The Needle Down” when you’re lucky enough to be collaborating with such talented and wonderful people. I consider myself a sponge when I’m around that dynamic duo – I try to soak up as much as I can and learn from their talent and experience!
I was thrilled to have Dave produce the single as well, and having him involved right from the get go of the writing process made for such a fantastic experience as the song translated to a fully produced single. His vision for the song was everything I hoped it would be and more, and I had the biggest smile on my face from the moment I heard the first mix.
By releasing the single is this a hint towards an upcoming E.P or album release or is this a single to test the water out?
Writing and recording “Drop The Needle Down” represented a huge turning point for me as both an artist and a writer, because I feel like I finally found exactly where I want to be with my sound and the vision I had for my music. Since it’s creation, it’s been nothing but excitement to create and release more music that I’m equally as passionate about – so I can promise that there will be much more to come in the near future. Stay tuned!
