Your show is just around the corner on the 30th at Bogart’s in Cincinnati how excited are you for the show?
I’m so excited for this show. I went to Bogart’s all the time growing up, & even stood in line outside for 11 hours to get a front row spot for Tegan & Sara. To have my first show back in Cincinnati at this venue is amazing.
What should your fans and new listeners at Bogart’s be in store for on the 30th?
I’ve had the opportunity to add a lot of variety to my set. I’ll play a few songs with just acoustic guitar, but I’ll also be debuting some new pop songs & I’ll be accompanied by a DJ for those. I’m so excited to play these new songs on stage and make this a really sonically diverse show.
With your latest song being released “Back Together Again” how excited were you have the song released?
It felt so great to finally release this song. It’s the first song that I recorded in the studio that fully captures the stylistic changes that I’m making in my music. It’s a sound that I’ve been creating and building up to for quite awhile now, so it was an amazing feeling to be able to share it with everyone.
How excited are you with the amount of downloads and online listens that you have received with the single?
I put so much work into writing and recording this song, and it’s incredible to see such a positive response so far from everyone online. It means a lot to know that so many people have enjoyed it enough to download it, & I love getting messages with people sharing their feedback & how they can relate to the story of the song.
In general how does “Back Together Again” represent your distinct sound? Or are you still searching for a sound to call your own?
Back Together Again perfectly represents my distinct sound. I’m a singer-songwriter first & foremost, and I wrote this song on acoustic guitar earlier this year about feelings of heartbreak, and then pulled inspiration from pop & hip hop studio albums to complement the message of the song when I went into the studio. I think the best way to describe my distinct sound is a blend of my acoustic, indie singer-songwriter side & my love and fascination with the catchy, striking elements of pop music.
How do your influences reflect into your song writing and music?
My songwriting was originally influenced heavily by singer-songwriters such as Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, and Brandi Carlile. I’ve recently been listening to a lot of pure pop music like Ellie Goulding, Sia, & the new Taylor Swift record. In the last few months I’ve been drawing inspiration from all of these writing & production styles, staying true to who I am as a songwriter, and simultaneously experimenting with bigger, fun new sounds in the studio.
Project wise what are you currently working on?
I just recorded two new songs in New Haven, CT with music producer Edwin Ramos. We’re currently in the mixing process, and I’m working on a video for one of them!
